"Way down upon the Suwannee River"

scene.jpg

Native Americans had long ago discovered the medicinal properties of the white sulphur springs, and declared it as sacred grounds. Truce was observed and no fighting permitted in a seven mile radius of the springs. All tribes were permitted to bring their sick to the springs for treatment without fear of attack.
White Springs became the first resort in the state of Florida. Known for its sulphur springs, people of all walks of life came to take the baths.
During the Civil War many families evacuated to the safety of White Springs. Ironically, the only major Civil War battle in Florida was fought nearby in Olustee.
White Springs is a step back in time. Camp with us under majestic oaks draped with spanish moss. Build a fire under a star spangled sky. Fall asleep to the sound of crickets and awaken to the sounds of birds.
Come as a camper, leave as a friend!
